Common myths about face yoga
Face Yoga is a natural method of skincare and wellbeing. So many of us are enjoying the benefits but there are also some common myths about face yoga. So let’s take a look at these myths and see whether they are fact or fiction.
Myth #1 - My life is too busy for face yoga
The truth is you only need one minute a day. Start off by choosing a technique that you enjoy or that targets a specific area. Then be consistent with this one technique. And then you can gradually add other techniques until you have a routine that works for you. Or do a few techniques but spread them throughout your day, for example, a minute while making your coffee, a minute in the shower, a minute in the pick up line at school. Break it down into more manageable segments so you are not overwhelmed with trying to fit a 30 minute routine into your day.
Myth #2 - Face yoga can cause wrinkles
With all the techniques that I show you, I make sure that no new lines or wrinkles are being created. Some of the techniques you may see a crease and we therefore use our fingers or our hands to smooth out the skin. So no new wrinkles will be created with Face Yoga if done correctly.
Myth #3 - Face Yoga can damage the skin
Again if the techniques are done correctly you will not cause any damage to the skin. We apply an oil or serum to the face so that our fingers glide over the skin, rather than pulling or dragging the skin. In some of the techniques where there is a pinching action, we always pinch down into the muscle rather than pulling at the skin. So no, if the techniques are done correctly Face Yoga will not damage the skin,
Myth #4 - Face yoga causes acne
Face Yoga boosts your circulation which for me actually helps my acne. And if you always have clean hands then you should not be causing any bacteria to get onto the skin. Face Yoga will not cause acne.
Myth #5- You can actually over do face yoga
As long as you are sensible, are not obsessively massaging and exercising your face all day, I don’t see any harm with doing Face Yoga. Always be gentle, always make sure you are only going to your comfort zone and most importantly enjoy it!
